The Cabrillo National Cemetery celebrate both the birth of our city, and thousands who have fallen defending it. Neighborhoods include La Playa, Loma Portal, Fleetridge, Roseville, and the Wooded Area ranging from single family homes to elegant Spanish style casas. The San Diego Yacht Club has trained thousands of young sailors (including America’s Cup winner Dennis Connor) and Point Loma Nazerne University teaches thousands of young people each year from its ocean view campus.

Point Loma’s economy is largely driven by marine recreation (including yachting and deep-sea fishing), retail businesses, and by military facilities.
Tourism & Activities
With several yacht clubs and three marinas, including the San Diego Yacht Club which was home to the America’s Cup from 1988 to 1995, Point Loma is a popular destination for world travelers and residents who call this unique and charming town their home. Point Loma also includes a large number of hotels, restaurants, and local businesses for all of the conveniences of a big city but with a small town feel that attracts visitors from near and far.

Point Loma Annual Events
The Day at the Docks festival occurs each April and focuses on Point Loma’s sport fishing industry.
The Cabrillo Festival takes place each October and commemorates the landing of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in Point Loma in 1542.
During Summer months (June through September), nationally known muscial acts and comedians perform at Humphreys Concerts On The Bay – an outdoor concert venue on Shelter Island.
Point Loma is also known for elaborate neighborhood Christmas decorations. There is a neighborhood lighting of luminarias on Christmas Eve in the area of Plumosa Park. On two Sundays in December there is a Parade of Lights with decorated boats sailing on the Bay with viewing from the shoreline for spectators.
